What is the dosage and how should it be used?
Levofloxacin comes as a tablet which is to be taken by mouth.
It is usually taken once daily for 7-14 days. Treatment for some infections may take 6 weeks or longer.
Take levofloxacin exactly as directed by your doctor.
Take each dose with a full glass of water (8 ounces). Drink several extra glasses of fluid each day to prevent the formation of levofloxacin crystals in the urine.
It is important to take it at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after any antacid, or mineral supplement with iron, calcium, zinc, or magnesium since these minerals bind levofloxacin and prevent its absorption.
Levofloxacin may be taken with or without food, and always at evenly spaced intervals.
Take all of the levofloxacin that has been prescribed to you even if you begin to feel better. Your symptoms may start to improve before the infection is completely treated.
